Position Available: PT/FT Driver's Training Instructor
Job Description: Teaching teens to driver behind the wheel and/or in the classroom
Days/Hours: Varied days/varied hours
Starting Pay: $10.00 starting pay
Qualifications: Certification as a driving instructor
CERTIFICATION PROCESS:
1. Instructor applicant must complete a minimum 40 hour instructor's course in driver training.
Class D Instructor Training -- Summary Time Totals for Phase 1 to Phase 4:
Phase 1: 24 hours -- must observe all Ohio classroom lessons of instruction
Phase 2: 8 to 10 hours -- must participate in all Ohio Behind the Wheel Lessons
Phase 3: 3 to 4 hours -- must apply Ohio specific lessons during this phase
Phase 4: 3 to 5 hours -- must apply Ohio specific lessons during this phase
Admin: 2 hours maximum for administrative training
Total: 40 hours minimum for new instructor training
More time may be conducted for candidates in order to meet the minimum expectations.
2. Instructor applicant must pass the driver training instructor test at the exam station
(includes vision, skill, and knowledge)
3. Instructor applicant must pass a physical -- stating the applicant is in sound physical and mental
health, the applicant has no injury or physical or mental impairment, and the applicant is not
under the influence of or addicted to any drug or medicine which may affect the applicant's
ability to drive or effectively and safely instruct students.
4. Instructor applicant must provide a criminal abstract by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and
Investigation. He or she has a record free of convictions for a felony, defined in section 2929.11
of the ORC, within the last 10 years and free of a misdemeanor i or ii within the last 5 years,
defined in section 2929.21 of the ORC which is reasonably related to a person's ability to serve
safely and honestly in connection with a driver training enterprise.
5. Applicant must provide driving record abstract obtained from the records of the BMV.
Certify the applicant has been licensed as the operator of a motor vehicle for at least 5 years.
He or she has a driving record free of any of the following:
Three or more chargeable crashes withing the last three years
Three or more moving violation convictions under chapter 4511 within the last 3 years
An accumulation of 6 points or more points under chapter 4507
12 point suspension under section 4507.021 of the ORC within the last 10 years
DUI/OVI conviction within the last 5 years
